John was truly a remarkable man. I have some great childhood memories of him, but one that stands out vividly dates back to the MotoGP race at Donington in 2000. Accompanied by my Dad (Paul), Phil, and John, we braved the dismal weather, amidst a sparse crowd, to witness an unforgettable race. The battle for the win between Kenny Roberts Jr., Jeremy McWilliams, and Valentino Rossi was thrilling, culminating in Rossi's triumphant first win in the premier class. A particularly memorable moment was McWilliams performing a burnout right in front of us after we ventured onto the track post-race.
That same year, our paths crossed with Jeremy McWilliams again at the NEC bikeshow. Anticipating a long wait for autographs, we were pleasantly surprised when McWilliams spotted John! And hit the brakes on the autograph session. Their reunion was a testament to John's enduring connections from his bike racing days, bypassing the queue as McWilliams eagerly caught up with him.
John's presence made such events something more; by becoming lasting memories. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered through moments like these that we were fortunate to share with him.
